As the year draws to a close, Northwest Academy says goodbye to yet another teacher.

Aaron Hampshire, high school physics, algebra two and robotics/computer science teacher will be leaving Northwest Academy at the end of this year.

“I found Northwest Academy through a job posting, while I was still in Dallas,” Hampshire said. “A current coworker at the time had heard good things about the school, so I pursued it. “

Hampshire started working at Northwest Academy in the 2011-2012 school year.

Not only did Hampshire start the robotics program, but he also helped strengthen Northwest Academy’s math and science program.

“Quirky and extremely rewarding,” Hampshire said when describing his experience. “I’ll always be fond of Northwest Academy and hope I can come back and see some shows after I’m gone!”

The students and faculty alike will miss Hampshire.

“Aaron is such an awesome teacher,” Henry Sullivan, a freshman, said. “He is pretty mellow and I learned a lot in his class.”

Though Hampshire is leaving Northwest Academy, he will not be far as he will be finishing his computer science degree while working part-time at a software development company in downtown Portland.

Hampshire was born in Renton, WA. He attended the University of Washington. There he studied mechanical engineering and earned a Bachelor of Science, (B.S.), on the subject. After spending seven years in Dallas, TX, and earning a Master of Arts, (M.A.), in theology at Dallas Theological he decided he needed to be closer to family and was missing the Pacific Northwest. He moved to Portland in the summer of 2011.
