Into the Woods Cast and Crew Preparing for Debut
The “Into the Woods” cast has been pulling overtime after school in an attempt to finish all of the sets and props before the play premieres.
According to several freshmen that are part of the cast, they are in a particularly difficult situation, with play practice, the work parties and everyday homework. Although the after school working parties are not mandatory, many people come to help out anyway.
“The play has been going really well,” Luci Edenlord, a freshman who plays both Little Red Riding Hood’s granny and Cinderella’s biological mother, said. “Everyone has been working really well together and that is really great to see.”
Although there is still much to do, the majority of the cast has been showing up to assist the Technical Theatre crew in completing all of the remaining work. The extra work has been bringing the “Into the Woods” cast closer together than it already was.
“It is pretty much required that the Tech Theatre kids be at the work parties because this is a Tech Theatre project, but they need all the help they can get,” Aidan Melkerson, a freshman who plays one of the princes, said. “The Project Theatre kids are just there to help out. They need the extra hands, and we have some free time, so why not?”
Northwest Academy’s “Into the Woods” is a fairly small production, and the cast is not very big. This means that many people are playing multiple parts, which can get overwhelming.
“Into the Woods” is a musical performance that combines many different well-known fairy tales, such as Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and others. It was written by James Lapine, with the music by Stephen Sondheim.
A theatrical version premiered in 2014, and starred many well known actors and actresses, including Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp.
In the play, a baker (Isaac Monti) and his wife (Josephine Appleyard) are childless, and they really want children, but a curse prevents them from having babies. The witch (Rachel Gunnerson) says that she will give them children if they get her four items. a pure white cow, a bright red cape, a glass slipper and bright yellow hair, so they go on a journey to find Cinderella (Chelsea Batchelor), Rapunzel (Ella Grace McDonald), Jack (Kyler Stanion) and Little Red Riding Hood (Grace Ettinger). “Into the Woods” follows their journey.
“Into the Woods” will be showing December 4th-5th and 10th-11th at 7:00 p.m., as well as December 6th and 12th at 2:00p.m. in the Blue Box Theatre.
