Prom is Coming!
Northwest Academy’s prom is different from normal proms, where only seniors and their dates are invited. Because of its small class size, the entire high school is allowed to attend, but this doesn’t lessen the student’s excitement.
“It’s smaller,” Elayna Caron, a senior, said. “You get to interact with more people and it’s not as big of a deal.”
This year’s prom is fairy tale-themed and will be held at Adrianna Hill Grand Ballroom on May 23 from 7pm to 10pm.
“Everyone can go,” Claire Novick, a senior said. “So, it’s not like this huge built-up thing, but it’s still really fun.”
Here, teachers also join in on the fun.
“The teachers will come and we will dance with them,” Novick said.
The school has had issues in the past finding a good venue for prom, due to its small size. Last year’s prom was held at Union Pine.
“It was a little too big I feel,” Sophie MacKay, a junior, said.
Many venues are too big and/or not in the right price range.
“We start by just looking for the right size space and look at prices, availability and then we can look at if it goes with the theme,” Leah Carnahan, a senior, said.
Having the appropriate amount of food and decorations is also an important part of the event. The decorations this year will be provided by the venue, but some things, like center pieces, are up to the seniors.
“Sometimes the food goes overboard,” Carnahan said. “But it is nice to have a little snack. Basically, we just have to find the perfect balance of everything.”
Cupcakes from Saint Cupcake will be provided and various drinks, including different sodas will also be served.
Prom is one of the most exciting things for this year’s seniors because not only does it mark the end of the school year, it is also the last high school event before graduation.
“Planning starts on the senior retreat, if not before,” Carnahan said. “We love prom planning.”
Everyone is excited for this year’s prom, especially Novick.
“The seniors especially are really excited,” Novick said. “We’re ready.”
